- Statement of Purpose
During the first five months of your coursework, your attention will be focused on production as you write and direct a short film. You’ll also shoot, design, produce and edit a short film while working as a key second crew member on eight additional films. After a whirlwind experience in production, you’ll travel to London for a semester that takes you beyond classroom walls and expands your worldview. While abroad, you’ll create your first full-length feature and a one-act play.
Back in Tallahassee, your second year will be entirely focused on writing, giving you the opportunity to collaborate with production students on their thesis films if you choose. To prepare you for the industry, you’ll take a class devoted solely to the art of pitching, which culminates in a week-long trip to Los Angeles. The LA intensive will allow you to pitch your work to industry professionals, get valuable feedback and connect with our strong alumni network.
Throughout the program, our writers are challenged to experiment across genres, explore their unique voices, and build a body of work for both television and film. With small classes of six to eight writers, we offer individual attention and hand-tailored approaches to take each writer to the next level.
