Good Morning everyone. Today I Mehak Arora stand before you to put forward my views on the topic "Live and Let live" by Bhagwan Mahavira.

Life is not as simple as it was before. With scientific and technological developments, man has become obsessive of luxurious lifestyle. Materialism has grasped all of us. It has made man insensitive to the human emotions of pity, compassion, generosity and affection. All of us want to prosper with material comforts and thus, we venture into the mad 'rat race'. In this materialistic world, we are governed by our instinct rather than our by conscience. This is the modern era. This is 21st century. Life has become so complicated. Corruption is eating up our society. Violence has raised its ugly head in the society. So, the question arises, is our society really progressing? Is everyone allowed to live freely? Not only physical violence, the number of people falling prey to emotional violence has also increased to a considerable number. So I would like to tell you man is not merely a creature who will be content with getting food, shelter and clothing. He has a soul, which needs to be nurtured. All of us can save the society from decadence and deterioration. All of us can make this world a better place to live in. But this can only be achieved if we follow the motto LIVE AND LET LIVE which is stated by the great Bhagwan Mahavira.

Live your own way and let others live their own that alone is the principle of good living. It is rightly said 'Do not do unto others what you do not want to be done to you' Do we not want to live happily? If we want to, others also want the same. That is possible only when we 'live and let live'.

This literary masterpiece depicts four decades of Chinese history, including historic events as the Sino-Japanese war, the civil war, the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Mao’s Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. During this time of culture and history, the main character, Fugui, experienced many endeavors in life. Ironically enough, the novel is called "To Live" when so many of the characters die in the story. Fugui is the only significant character in the novel that remains alive at the end of the story. The author, Yu Hua, beautifully articulated the political turmoil of the Chinese Civil war into the literary perspective of Fugui’s life and thus the novel, To Live, manifested. Hua portrays the civil war in different stages to embody Fugui’s life and growth as a person throughout the novel.
