Critical Thinking for Kids

  • If your child likes to do workbooks (my four year old can't get enough of them) your child will like this book. I know that the grade level is 2nd or 3rd grade, but it does such a good job of breaking down and explaining concepts that much younger children can benefit from this book too.

  • I loved this book at first, but then there came the end...

    Likes:

The use of logical thinking in this fantasy world was a wonderful idea. It brought about sense in the face of something you don't know.
The enemy was also well-acquainted with the king, although it may not be for good, as Nikki suspects. She was the one who (spoiler) brought about logic and reason to prove against his word.

    Dislikes:

The title makes it sound like a fanciful textbook. I wasn't intrigued until I started to actually read it.

The end comes as a complete cliff hanger. It sounds like a money making scheme to get you to buy the next book.

All in all this is a wonderful book for those with great minds and those wishing to make their minds greater.

  • "Good variety of puzzles for the beginner to figure out ..." - By Amazon Customer
Good variety of puzzles for the beginner to figure out what kind they like. The only thing that I didn't like is that the book is broken up into sections and the answers for each section are at the end of each section instead of at the end of the book. My kid figured that out pretty quick and started peeking at the answers instead of working some of these out. I ended up cutting them out of the book. One thing I liked was that it gave instructions on how to do some of the puzzles (like logic puzzles). However, I didn't like HOW the instruction was given.

  • "The book of all ages." - By ERIC
Great book, beautifully bound and clear pictures.

Good for all ages to learn the ideas of fallacies from.

A good book to teach students with!

Recommended if you are a teacher/person who likes to collect books on mental thought!

  • I have two children, one 7 and the other 8. They both love this book. We solve the problems as a family as we finish up Sunday dinner each week. The problems are challenging while solvable. What a great way to introduce kids to problem solving, analogies and higher level thinking.

  • "This is an excellent book for introducing children to philosophical ideas and their ..." - By Karen Gann (Huntsville, AL United States)
This is an excellent book for introducing children to philosophical ideas and their respective philosophers. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to explore serious questions about ethics, epistemology, and metaphysics (along with critical thinking) with their child(ren). I am currently using this books as a basis for a homeschool co-op class and the discussions we have are deep and "brain melting" (as my students say). I was specifically looking for something secular (there are a lot of philosophy/critical thinking books on Amazon that are Christian-based) and this fits the bill perfectly because it's neutral with regards to God and theology. The age range of our discussion group is 8 - 13. Some of the younger kids have a harder time comprehending the ideas and going deep into the discussion, but it's perfect for the 11-13 year olds in the group. They've really enjoyed it, and I've enjoyed ... full review

  • I am using Fallacy Detective with two of my children, ages 12 and 10 although occasionally my 6 and 4 year olds listen in too. The book states it is intended for ages 12 and up. My older children are not having any difficulty with this book and my younger ones understand some of it.

There are a couple things I am doing to help the children really learn the material. They love the book and would like to cover 10 lessons a day if I would let them! First, we are taking it slow with one lesson every couple of days and in-between lesson days we continue to review the fallacies we have previously learned. Two, I have made a list with the name of the fallacy and a short, couple word reminder of the meaning of that fallacy. I have it ... full review

  • "Good Book but way to pricey !!!!" - By Sangita
I bought this book for my 5 1/2 year old boy for some extra kick for his patterns questions. When I received it was disappointed because it has only few pages to work on. He finished very quickly. Some of the questions were defiantly challenging,he needed my help rest he was able to do it by him self. I also find some pics were confusing, you can't differentiate what they really are. For that much price written would have done a better job by provide more exercise (more questions). Over all it was good but if you do not mind to pay that much money. Do not get me wrong though I gave 4 stars because of the high price but for the material it deserves 5 star.

  • "Very good book to build logical thinking" - By Monabee (Los Angeles)
I bought this book and the level 3 for my 12 year old son. I am impressed with how well designed and organized it is. It starts with simplest steps and helps him to build up thinking skills step by step. This book has a lot of figures and shapes in it and involves a lot of drawing geometric shapes on dotted areas that is very fun for kids to do. I am homeschooling my son for one year and I use this book every morning to warmup his brain. The instruction are very easy to follow and my ADHD son actually enjoys working on it !!
